ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA

MINUTES, MAY 17, 2001

The School Board of Escambia County, Florida, convened in Special Meeting at 6:00 p.m., in Room 160, J.E. Educational Services Center, 30 East Texar Drive, Pensacola, Florida, with the following present:

Chairman:  Dr. John DeWitt         Vice Chairman: Mrs. Cary Stidham (was not present)

Members:  Mr. Gary L. Bergosh

Dr. Elmer Jenkins

School Board Attorney: Mr. Francisco Negron, Jr. (was not present)

Superintendent of Schools: Mr. Jim Paul

 

I. CALL TO ORDER

Dr. Dewitt announced that a reception sponsored by the Foundation for Excellence would follow the meeting.  Motion made by Dr. Jenkins, seconded by Ms. Finkelstein, to adopt the agenda and approve all certificates and recognitions, was unanimous.

II. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS

Mr. Ronnie Arnold, Director of Information Services, served as Master of Ceremonies, for the program.  The School Board and Superintendent congratulated all of the honored recipients on the following achievements.

3. MANNA FOOD BANK PRESENTATION TO SCHOOLS
Frankie Van Horn and Tim Evans made presentations to Jim Allen Elementary School, Brown Barge Middle School and George Stone Vocational Center.

4. NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY – RESOLUTION
Madonna Jackson-Williams accepted the Resolution on behalf of Escambia Education Association.

5. PRESENTATION BY CITY MAYOR – NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY RESOLUTION
Mayor Fogg was unable to attend the meeting and Madonna Jackson-Williams accepted the Resolution from Mr. Arnold on behalf of Escambia Education Association.

6. PRESENTATION BY JUDY LADNER – A.A. DIXON OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER
Judy Ladner made a presentation to the parents of Tammy Smith, A.A. Dixon Outstanding Volunteer, who had recently passed away.

7. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL GRIOTS STATE CHAMPIONS – RESOLUTION
The Resolution was accepted by Washington High School Griots team.
