ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA
MINUTES, JULY 20, 2001
The School Board of Escambia County, Florida, held a press conference at 11:00 a.m., in the Board Room, at the Dr. Vernon McDaniel (Administration) Building, 215 West Garden Street, Pensacola, Florida, with the following present:
Chairman: Dr. John DeWitt Vice Chairman: Mrs. Cary Stidham
Board Members: Mr. Gary L. Bergosh (was not present)
Ms. Linda Finkelstein
Dr. Elmer Jenkins
Dr. DeWitt opened the press conference at 11:00 a.m. He stated that the purpose of the press conference, was to give members of the press and media, an opportunity to pose questions regarding various issues that they believed were of concern to the community. Each Board Member gave brief opening remarks and expressed their intent to continue the development of a cooperative working relationship among themselves, the Superintendent and district staff.
Dr. DeWitt announced that, as a result of much hard work and tough decisions, the Board had identified approximately 8.1 million dollars that will be applied towards increasing teachers salaries. He noted that the Board would present those figures to the Collaborative Bargaining Team next week, for negotiation.
Dr. DeWitt opened the floor to members of the press and media and Board Members responded to questions regarding various issues.
The Board collectively stated that they would continue to work toward developing a long-range plan to ensure that every student in Escambia County continues to receive a quality education.
The press conference ended at 11:45 a.m.
