TOPIC

SIM: Proficiency in Sentence Writing Strategy and The Test-Taking Strategy

DESCRIPTION

The Proficiency in Sentence Writing Strategy is the follow up to the Fundamentals in Sentence Writing Strategy. The Strategy is designed to teach students how to write a variety of sentence types fluently.
The Test-Taking Strategy is designed to teach students how to be test-wise and gain the maximum number of points on tests.  The strategy is especially effective with struggling learners.

Matrix of Services Training

DESCRIPTION

The Matrix of Services is the document used to determine the cost factor for each exceptional education student based on the decisions made by the IEP committee. The Matrix must be completed by personnel who have received approved training.  This workshop will cover recent legislative changes in the Matrix, as well as the five domains and levels within each domain.  Participants will get hands-on practice using the Matrix!

How Can I Differentiate Instruction for Students with Persistent Reading Difficulties?

DESCRIPTION

This training is an overview of how to differentiate instruction in the five areas of reading in order to increase the explicitness and intensity of instruction in alignment with student need. The emphasis is on how to make instruction more explicit and intensive to achieve optimal results for students with persistent and significant challenges in learning to read or in reading to learn. Workshop activities are designed so participants acquire new knowledge, start to make meaning, and begin to transfer their learning to their instruction. Participants will be expected to participate in follow-up activities.

Parents As Reading Tutors (PART)

DESCRIPTION

Parents as Reading Tutors (PART) is an easily learned, scientifically developed program that parents can use to help children who have reading problems. The program provides parents (or other adults) with step-by-step procedures to provide reading practice for students. The program is designed to increase fluency and comprehension with 10-15 minutes of daily tutoring.

This module provides a comprehensive understanding of the purposes of assessment; the legal requirements, including IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the Race to the Top (RTTT) competitive grant program, an outgrowth of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
