Brentwood Library Media Center

Mrs. Marona

Welcome to the Library at Brentwood Elementary School!

The Library Media Center is the exciting reading and information hub of our school and is home to a collection of approximately 12,000 different books and materials. We offer fourteen student computer stations for catalog searching, research, and supervised Internet access. In addition to our 450 K-5 students, our patrons include school faculty and staff, UWF practicum students, parents, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentors.

During an average school year, our library checks out over 40,000 books and materials to our patrons, and in 2008-2009, our per student circulation was second highest in the school district. Our Brentwood students LOVE to read!

Our program's main objectives are to instill in children a love for reading and knowledge, and to teach information literacy skills which lead to lifelong, independent learning.

As part of Escambia School District's Library Media Services, our library's responsibilities are to:

  • Provide media that will stimulate intellectual growth
  • Provide information that will enable students to make intelligent decisions and to understand the consequences of their decisions
  • Provide educational media that reflects differing and/or opposing viewpoints
  • Provide educational media that reflects the multicultural basis of society and the contributions of different cultures

Our Library Media Center supports the Accelerated Reader (AR) program, which provides students with large quantities of reading practice and assesses their reading comprehension. Our online AR List can be viewed by clicking here.

Our Library Media Center is home to the WCUB Morning Show which is a daily, live, closed-circuit, student-produced five-minute news show featuring principal announcements, student birthdays, awards, daily news, lunch menu, weather, moment of silence, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mrs. Marona has been the Brentwood Library Media Specialist since 2004. She is a graduate of the University of North Alabama, and has done graduate work in Library and Information Studies at Florida State University.
