The Journey Can Be Fun and Rewarding

High School Education can be such fun, because it contains the building blocks of core knowledge, along with other elective areas of learning which enhance and expand upon the core knowledge. Fortunately, high school education is a liberal arts education, letting students explore all blocks of learning. The English Block: You use and will use every day of your life, whether speaking, texting, computing, etc. The Math Block: You use and will use every day of your life, from decisions as often as the daily fast food prices to highway speeds. The History Block: This block should be used daily, for it is through the reflection of yesterday that the future can be seen in perspective. Life tells us to learn from the lessons of the past (history); however, always remember that history is written by the winners. You will need to learn how to separate fact from fiction. The Science block: You will use forever, whether you are contemplating a formula or deciding whether or not the “science experiment” in the refrigerator is safe to eat.

Students sometimes fail to see the connection for school and work, believing there is a “disconnect” with what they are learning and the real world. Fortunately, school, careers, nor life are one-dimensional. Life and education are interesting, because students can study and can play. Play is really just hard work, which requires sacrifices of time and energy, but people are willing to do it because they choose to do so. At NHS it is fortunate that a majority of students choose to sacrifice their time and energy to make all of the sports teams as great as they can be, to make the band, color guard, jazz ensemble, and majorettes a great sight to see and hear, to make the NJROTC unit a proud representation of the basic greatness of America, and to make all of the clubs and organizations avenues for leadership skills and avenues for “giving back to the community” a portion of what they have been blessed to have received

Our challenge at Northview is to work within the parameters of all things required by local, state, and national requirements to provide every student opportunities. Ability will decide how high a student can achieve. Motivation will decide how high a student will achieve. NHS will provide the opportunity, whether in regular classes, honors classes, Florida Virtual avenue, and/or dual enrollment. Regardless of whether a student has been placed in a course because of the need for remediation or because it is an elective which has been chosen, it is the sincerest of hopes that the student will do everything possible to learn something which will help to make the rest of life a whole lot more enjoyable and/or easier.

The combination of Ability, Motivation, and Opportunity can open the doors of a wonderful life. The days and months go quickly, so do not waste a moment of time. Have fun, study hard, be sweet, and stay safe.

Good Luck to the Chiefs for 2011-2012!
