States of the United States: A WebQuest

Introduction

You will use the Internet to gather facts about a state you have been assigned to research.

The Task

You will gather research to learn about one of the 50 states. After you have gathered all the facts about your state, you will create a PowerPoint presentation. You will present your PowerPoint to the class.

The Process

Use the State Information Chart to gather your facts before you start your PowerPoint

1. Use the websites below to complete all of your chart EXCEPT the, "Fun Facts."

2. Go to www.google.com and search for "fun facts" about your state (for example: "fun facts about Alabama"

3. Use your PowerPoint Slide Planning Page to plan your presentation. Every slide should have a title!

4. IN THE LAB, follow the directions below to add pictures to your PowerPoint.

Slide 1:

Name of your state

Your name

This slide should have the following three graphics, which you can get from this site:
http://www.netstate.com/state_geography.htm:

You will use:

1. Black shape of state
2. State flag
3. US map with your state highlighted (You will use this map to cover the name of your state PowerPoint. You will use a, "Custom Animation" to have the map move away and uncover the name of your state so you can quiz your classmates.)

Slide 2:

Include a map of your state with the capital marked. You can find one here: http://www.50states.com/

Slide 3:

Include pictures of the state flower and bird from here: http://www.50states.com/

Insert an audio clip of the state song, and have it play automatically.

Slides 4 - 6:

Use appropriate pictures for your other slides whenever you can!
